Handing your church to someone else

You hand your church to someone else from Settings, under Danger zone. Press Transfer ownership, and once they accept, you become a volunteer and lose access to Settings.

Important

Complete the handover before you leave so the next Owner can manage volunteers, rooms and settings.

Steps to hand over

  1. Go to Settings and press Transfer ownership under Danger zone.
  2. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your own email address, which confirms it's you.
  3. Enter the email address of the person taking over, and press Send handover invitation.
  4. Wait for them to accept. You stay the Owner until they do, and the transfer shows as Pending.

While it's pending you can press Send it again if the invitation has gone astray, or Cancel the transfer if you change your mind.

What changes when they accept

They become the Owner and you become a volunteer, in one step. You keep access to the church as a volunteer, with Today, People and QR codes. Your church's children, rooms and history stay as they are. The audit trail records the handover, who started it and who accepted.

Choosing the next Owner

Choose the person who'll be responsible for managing Hey Burrow at your church. See Who can see what: roles and permissions.

If someone is handing a church to you

You'll get an email with an Accept ownership button. If you're signed out, you land on a Take over page with your email filled in. Press Send code, enter the code we email you, then press Accept ownership on the next page. You become the Owner and the person handing over becomes a volunteer.

Troubleshooting

  • They never got the invitation. Press Send it again. If the address was wrong, press Cancel the transfer and start again with the right one.
  • You've handed over and need it back. Ask the new Owner to transfer it back to you, because we can't reverse it from our side.
  • The Owner has left and can't be reached. Email us and we'll work through it with you.
