How locations, sessions and rooms fit together

A location is where your church meets, a session is when, and a room is a group of children. You set all three up separately, and they come together when a volunteer opens a room for a session that's running.

Set them up in this order

The setup flow asks for them in this order.

1. Locations, where you answer One place if you meet in one. See Locations: do you need them?.
2. Sessions, your service times. You can skip this.
3. Rooms, the groups children are divided into. You need at least one.

Rooms can be added at any point. See Getting started: what to do first.

Afterwards each one is managed in its own place: Rooms and Sessions in the sidebar, and locations on the Locations tab under Settings.

You create Nursery once, and it's available at every location and in every session.

Where they meet

They come together on the Today dashboard. Each session has an Open a room button. Press it, choose Nursery, and you've made an Open Room: that room, in that session, on that day, opened by you. A new one is made every time. See Rooms and Open Rooms.

The location switcher

Once you have two locations, the location's name at the top of the Today dashboard becomes a switcher. It shows only the sessions running at the location you choose, which are the ones you can open a room in.

Troubleshooting

• You can't find where to assign a room to a session. You choose the room when you open it, so there's no setting that assigns rooms ahead of time.
• A session is missing from the Today dashboard. A scheduled session appears only on its own day of the week. Check Sessions for the day and time, and check the Timezone while you're there.
• You want different rooms at different locations. The room list is church-wide, so give each room its own name, like Nursery at Riverside.
